LaQuita Hearn-Quinn all but prophesied the birth of her firstborn. Married to Edward for 8 years, they started trying to get pregnant in 2008. The Matteson, Il. couple discovered that they needed medical help and turned to insemination. “I don't think the black community likes talking about needing help with reproduction,” she said. “But sometimes you need it, and it worked.” She was ready for a break from the fertility treatments and said she’d try once more after they returned from a trip to Australia. In 2011, “I said the baby will be here before the year is out, I just knew it,” she said. “I’ve never been confident about any two things ever except for that and that it was going to be a girl.” They will try for another when Emmersyn turns one, and if they have a third child, it will be a "miraculous gift from the Lord," she said laughing. Stocking up on pink and green clothes and AKA pacifiers, LaQuita also took pregnancy tests everyday for 13 weeks just to "make sure she was still there" since she had to use fertility treatments. "I was like 'I'm so pregnant it's showing up on dollar store tests,'" she said. "Ed was like um, we don't have to save them all." - Akeya Dickson
